For my very first blog post, I thought the subject of a woman’s monthly period would be an ideal subject to tackle. From the time we are little boys, through to teens, then onto adulthood, this issue arises forever, and it’s haunting! Whether it’s your mother, sister, spouse, teacher, nanny or doctor, periods are all over the place! However, to the young male mind, the concept and notion of a period is completely foreign and revolting. It’s amazing how inundated the man’s world has become because of this famous monthly period.
Well, not everyone shared, so actually, I don’t know all 8 answers. But it was a range from, pretty much not existent, to every night, to which I blurted out, “EVERY NIGHT????” And yes, one of them actually, it was the only forty year old in the group, does it every single night! And early in the evening too! They put the kids to bed at 7:30PM, sex it up a little, and then watch their daily shows on Tivo. Sounds like a nice cozy evening to me, m’ladies!
So, truth be told, (and my friends know this all too well), I would NEVER have a third child, unless I could produce a dancing pink ballerina. With pink Burberry dresses. And pig tails. Or braids. Did I mention pink? I would NEVER get pregnant to have a third boy. This would actually necessitate my husband putting me in a loony bin. “Honey, just don’t forget to pack my Ipod!”
So how do we live an authentic life? How do we live a life just and true? I figure we have a limited number of years on this earth, so we may as well live it as authentically as possible and on our own terms, right?
Why I chose this topic is because I have been very fascinated with Chaz Bono’s story (formerly Chastity Bono), the only child of Sonny Bono and Cher, who recently underwent a female-to-male sex change.
Daughter-in-law of the great cosmetic legend Estee Lauder, Evelyn Lauder has been at the forefront in the fight against breast cancer for years. Her story is one of both misfortune and privilege, after first having escaped the horror of the Nazis in World War II and then marrying into a family of wealth and privilege. This woman, however, didn’t turn out to be no average trophy wife. Recruited into the Company by her mother-in-law, Estee Lauder, it was clear early on that Evelyn was a very capable and dynamic young woman. Using her position as a “Lauder” in the company, she further rallied for the cause, and has been fighting relentlessly to find a cure ever since.
So yes, when we lose someone at a ripe old age, we celebrate their life and reminisce about all the wonderful memories and funny stories, but we also have the right to be sad. This is every person’s right when they lose a loved one.
I’ve already done a Blog entry about H1N1, but I wanted to address this topic again. Everywhere you look, someone, somewhere in the world is reporting on the outbreak or pandemic of H1N1 (aka the Swine Flu). And it’s some really scary sh&t, let me tell you! We hear of cases where people are dying from the Swine flu. If you knew you could prevent this, and it was as simple as getting a little shot, wouldn’t it be a no-brainer? On the flip side, people are dying FROM the H1N1 shot. Should you risk giving a perfectly healthy individual a vaccine, only to have them develop permanent side effects? It’s a very complex issue.
But truth be told, with the resurgence of feminism and a greater number of women in the workforce earning higher salaries than ever before, society is really becoming attuned to the needs of women. And we women want it all! We’re not willing to compromise. That picture we painted of a woman when we were little… we’re going for it! In fact, society is so fascinated with what women want, there’s actually a remake in the works of the original 2000 movie.
