Episode Description
On this episode of The Erica Diamond Podcast, we’re talking about women’s health—and making sense of all the noise.
Hormones. Creatine. Ozempic. Peptides. Longevity. Everywhere we turn, someone is telling us what we should be taking, testing, or doing to feel better and live longer. But what actually helps, and what’s just hype?
My guest is Dr. Sarah Kerner, a family physician, assistant professor of family medicine at McGill University, and founder of What We Wish You Knew, a live event series bringing doctors and the community together for honest, approachable conversations about health.
With heart, compassion, knowledge, and humour, Sarah joins me to explore the health questions so many women are asking, especially in their 40s and 50s. From understanding changes in our bodies to navigating the latest wellness trends, this conversation is about feeling informed and more confident speaking up for what we need.
Because self-care includes understanding your health, asking questions, and being an active participant in your own care.
Key Takeaways:
- Your questions about your body deserve a conversation.
We explore why women may struggle to distinguish stress, aging, and perimenopause—and how to begin that conversation with their doctor. - Hormone therapy deserves an informed discussion.
Sarah walks us through questions about potential benefits, risks, and individual suitability, beyond the fear and confusion surrounding hormones. - Creatine is having a moment—but what does the evidence say?
We discuss the interest in creatine for women over 40, including questions about muscle, energy, cognition, and healthy aging. - There is more to the GLP-1 conversation than weight loss.
We explore medications like Ozempic and Wegovy, who they may be appropriate for, and the questions to ask about their use and potential risks. - Peptide promises deserve a closer look.
We unpack the conversation around peptides, including what is established, what remains experimental, and the red flags to watch for. - Healthy aging can get lost in the pursuit of optimization.
With so much pressure to test, track, and buy the next longevity solution, we ask what deserves our attention when the goal is to live well longer. - Caring for others brings its own self-care challenges.
Sarah shares her perspective on balancing medicine, motherhood, and public health education while protecting her own well-being.
