Why More Women Are Booking Retreats Alone, And Loving It

There is a quiet but powerful shift happening in the world of women’s wellness travel.

More women are booking retreats alone.

Not because they don’t have friends. Not because they are lonely. Not because they have suddenly decided to reinvent themselves as a woman sipping herbal tea and journaling under a tree, although honestly, that sounds kind of fabulous.

Women are booking retreats alone because they are tired of waiting.

Tired of waiting for everyone’s schedules to align. Tired of waiting for the friend who says, “I’m in!” and then disappears when the deposit is due. Tired of waiting for permission to choose themselves.

And I have to say, I think this is one of the most beautiful self-care shifts we are seeing.

For so long, we have been taught that travel is something we do with other people. A girls’ trip. A couples’ weekend. A family vacation. A milestone birthday getaway. And of course, those experiences can be beautiful and meaningful. But there is something different, and deeply powerful, about taking yourself somewhere on purpose. Not to escape your life, but to see your life with fresh eyes.

That is what a retreat can do.

A retreat is not just a vacation. A vacation can be wonderful, but let’s be honest, sometimes you come home from a vacation needing a vacation from the vacation. You have planned the outfits, booked the restaurants, navigated everyone’s preferences, answered emails from the hotel room, overpacked by 17 outfits, underpacked the one thing you actually needed, and somehow still ended up being the person who knew where everyone’s passports were.

A retreat is different.

A real retreat invites you to put down the managing, the overthinking, the caretaking, the “I’m fine” face, and the invisible mental load women carry so beautifully that the world forgets how heavy it actually is.

It gives you space.

And space, my friends, is the new luxury.

Not just beautiful sheets, spa robes, gorgeous meals, and dreamy surroundings, although I am absolutely not turning any of those down. The deeper luxury is time and space for yourself. The privilege of not rushing. The privilege of being cared for. The privilege of surrendering to an experience you did not have to curate, control, or organize for everyone else.

That is why so many women are drawn to heart-centred retreats right now. Because we are not just craving more self-care. We are craving soul care.

And let’s talk about the nervous system for a second, because this is something I care deeply about in my work. So many high-functioning women are living in a constant state of low-grade fight-or-flight. They are answering messages, caring for families, leading teams, building businesses, supporting aging parents, managing calendars, trying to stay healthy, trying to stay positive, trying to stay productive, trying to stay grateful, and trying not to lose their minds when someone asks, “What’s for dinner?” at 5:47 p.m.

It is a lot.

So when a woman finally steps away from her everyday environment and enters a space where she can be held, guided, nourished, and supported, something begins to soften. Her shoulders drop. Her breath deepens. Her brain stops scanning for the next thing to solve. And slowly, she begins to remember herself.

That is the awakening.

Not always dramatic. Not always loud. Not always some big “Eat Pray Love” moment where you suddenly decide to move to Italy and only wear white. Sometimes the awakening is quieter than that. Sometimes it sounds like, “I forgot how much I missed myself.” Sometimes it sounds like, “I didn’t realize how tired I was.” Sometimes it sounds like, “I want my life to feel upgraded when I go home.”

That is the richness of retreat.

You come for the experience, but you leave with the version of yourself you’ve been missing. You leave with more depth. You leave with a new relationship to your own time, energy, body, and truth.

You leave with new friendships too, because one of the surprising things about coming alone is that you often connect more openly. You are not hiding behind your friend. You are not locked into someone else’s rhythm. You are free to meet people from where you are now. And be fully, yourself.

And that is often where the magic lives.

I always say that self-care is not selfish. But more than that, self-care is not surface. At its deepest, self-care is the practice of returning to yourself. It is asking, “What do I need now? What am I no longer available for? What kind of life am I trying to build, and is my current rhythm actually supporting that life?”

A retreat gives you the room to ask those questions.

And when you book it alone, you give yourself an even greater gift. You are saying, “I do not need to wait for someone else to validate this desire.”

That is powerful.

That is brave.

And yes, that is also a little luxurious in the very best way.

And when you return home, you are not magically a different person. The laundry is still there. The inbox is still there. Life is still life.

But something inside has shifted.

You have remembered that you are worthy of being cared for. You have remembered that you do not have to wait. You have remembered that sometimes the most beautiful way to come back to your life is to leave it for a little while, alone, on purpose, with an open heart.

And this is exactly why I created Reset & Thrive.

women booking retreats alone

Not as another packed getaway where you need to recover from the itinerary. But as a heart-centred luxury retreat for women who are ready to step away from the noise, soften their nervous system, reconnect with themselves, and return home with more clarity, calm, and inner strength.

From October 15–18, 2026, I’ll be leading an intimate group of women at the beautiful Canyon Ranch Lenox in the Berkshires for four days and three nights of rest, reflection, nourishment, connection, self-care, and soul care.

You can come with a friend. You can come with your sister. You can come with your mother.

And yes, you can absolutely come alone.

Most of our women are coming alone.

Because sometimes the most powerful reset begins with one brave decision:

I’m going. For me.

Come for the experience.

Leave with the exhale.
