Staying Healthy

I can’t believe it’s that time again… we’re approaching winter. We’re approaching FLU SEASON. In fact, my family’s skin has faded from golden brown (lovin’ summer) to pale white to almost green-like. My boys have started with their first runny noses in months, and I have been fighting a sinus infection for about three weeks. We slacked off with our health regime all summer, because we had the benefits of natural sunlight, the great outdoors, and we ate a ton of fruit. However, with back-to-school, a bunch of kids packed into close quarters, for hours on end, it’s only a matter of time before everyone gets sick again.

Lessons To Learn From Life

LESSONS I LEARNED FROM LIFE
Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio

“To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more”:

1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends andparents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

When Mommy’s A Mess

Do you ever feel, that as the centrifugal force of the house, that mommy’s mood sets the tone for the the whole family? This Blog post came to me a couple of weeks ago, when my girlfriend said, can you Blog about how when we are not good, the rest of our family never feels good? And how we can pull ourselves out of these slumps?

So really, what happens if mom’s not happy?

Diamond In The Rough

What a delight it is as a businesswoman to sit down and read a book like Erica Diamond’s 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before….Starting Their Own Business. Of course, I wish this book had appeared on my desktop prior to publishing Press+1, but it was reassuring to know that many of the pitfalls, hardships, learning curves and successes along the way were not my own – they were shared by other businesswomen on a similar journey.

Mommy Guilt

Recently, a Mom friend of mine confided in me that when she had her first child, she did not feel any guilt at all…UNTIL one day another Mom asked her if she ever feels guilty about doing things for herself. “I do now,” she replied. Another Mom friend of mine told me that she felt guilty laying her baby down for a nap, because then she would be getting a break. I am sure she used that time to slovenly wash dishes or fold laundry or, god forbid, shower. No wonder she felt guilty. Seriously, even if what she did was go directly to her bed and lay there still and silent until her child awoke, should she not be able to do so guilt free? Don’t we, as Moms, deserve a break?

Wordless Wednesday and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

It’s no secret that I have followed the research of one incredible doctor over the years… Dr. Susan Love. In fact, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2009, I Blogged about Dr. Susan Love and her Army of Women . Unfortunately, breast cancer is a disease that hits very close to home for me.

What Dr. Love has done this year, is called out to all Bloggers and women everywhere to join her in her fight against breast cancer. She’s asking us to take the pledge:

Cory Booker, Mark Zuckerberg and His Cool $100 Mill

If you follow me on Twitter, it’s no secret that I LOVE Mayor Cory Booker. I have been singing this man’s praise for the full year I have been following him. So when I heard the news last week, I wasn’t shocked.
And the news was big. Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Facebook, pledged a $100 million grant to the public schools of Newark, New Jersey. Newark mayor Cory Booker, New Jersey governor Chris Christie and Mark Zuckerberg all came on The Oprah Show this past Friday to make the big announcement. And when Zuckerberg was asked his reasoning behind the donation, why Newark, why education, he had one answer… “It’s because of these two guys.” He said that by placing his faith and money in these men, he is hoping to set the example for education for all of America. Here it the announcement…
