When Illness Takes Over a Marriage

Our married life was great for some time. But then it began to unravel. At first, I ignored all the signs. The dissolution of my marriage began with my inner demons. The rapid decline of my mental health became a reality we could no longer ignore. There we were, two isolated people. Me in my world, and my husband in his. My husband took a bottle of booze with him for some extra comfort.

What Life’s All About

And as I lay in bed tonight, I can’t help but think how life changes when you have kids. Before I had kids 6 years ago, I had never stepped foot in a Wal-Mart. EVER.IN.MY.LIFE. I had never stepped foot into a Chuck E Cheese (I had heard of it, but thought it was a cheese shop… for real), or even a Toys R Us for that matter. I’m an only child with no nieces or nephews, so baby gifts consisted of Burberry sleepers and snowsuits from the fancy children’s clothing store. It was all I knew. And then at 28 years old, my life forever changed, as all of our lives do after we push out the basketball growing inside us for 9 months. And I think priorities start to shift. We don’t lose ourselves, (at least we hope we don’t), but things start to take on a different meaning.

Complaining: “Would You Like Some Cheese With That Whine?”

I knew someone, actually someone I used to work with, who complained about EVERYTHING! Frikkin’ everything! About the unfairness of her being given the worst clients, to having the worst behaved child in the world, to having the most unsupportive husband, and the list went on an on. I can complain with the best of ’em, but I’m telling you, I was Miss Susie Sunshine next to this woman. The truth is, no one likes to be around a complainer, except well, maybe, other complainers.

Friday’s Recipe Exchange

Some of you have been suggesting that I do some sort of recipe exchange on the Blog. So what I have decided to do today as a test, with spring in the air, and BBQ season just around the corner, is encourage all of you to add some of your favorite recipes for our readers. This way, if something sounds interesting, you can jot it down, or copy and paste, and voila, you have it! I will add that Shrimp Dish I cooked on Monday night. It’s my mother in law’s recipe, and it’s DELICIOUS! Not very low fat, but very tasty just the same!

A Panic Attack and a Birthday

We all sat down, starved. All of a sudden, completely out of the blue, my 6 year old son began to panic. He complained that it was very loud, and he began to cry uncontrollably. He then said he wanted to throw up, so I immediately ran him to the bathroom. He didn’t throw up, but was complaining he HAD to go home. Not even the burger and fries on the table (which he usually LOVES) could calm him down or get him to eat. We took him outside, and the minute he got outside, he started to relax. He was back to normal. It was near 7Pm at this point, and I knew he was hungry, so I tried to bring him back inside. The minute he came back in, he started to almost shake again, cry, and was literally eating his burger with tears streaming down his eyes, with his coat on. He just wanted to go home. So, after he ate a little, we did just that. We darted home. Besides one time a year ago at a hockey game, where he did something similar, this has NEVER happened in 6 1/2 years.

10 Tips To Spring Clean Your Body

Spring is definitely coming. Everyone was up early in our house this morning, because of the brighter early am’s. The bad thing… less sleep. The good thing… me not ranting like a fish-wife for everyone to get out of bed so as not to be late for school. Me and rushing don’t do well together. At all. Last week, I blogged about Spring Cleaning your house and your life. Today I want to talk about spring cleaning your body. I think we often take our bodies for granted. Sometimes our bodies can take the abuse, but sometimes, as in the case of Corey Haim, (who grew up here in Montreal), our bodies just cannot. So what can you do to be good to your body, so that it will be good to you.

On Aging– Hopefully Gracefully

If there’s one thing no one in this world is exempt from, no matter how rich, how poor, how thin, how nice, how evil, how generous, WHATEVER, it’s AGING. Yes, we are all aging. And we are fighting it at the exact same rate as the next woman. Some age better, some worse, but it’s a process we all must face whether we like it or not.

Off The Fence & Into The Gym

I’ve been training clients for more than 25 years now, mostly women, and I’ve heard my fair share of workout goals from the opposite sex. For the most part, they are body part related, and the eternal quest for thinner thighs, flatter stomachs, and more toned arms continues to this day. I have learned to listen to their requests, sympathize with body image discontent, and do my best to deliver results. I combine my own agenda as a trainer with 25 years of experience and constant learning, my life experience as a human being, my clients’ goals, and I deliver my very best workout advice I can.

Being Thankful

Look at the devastation in Haiti. After a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the death toll is in the tens of thousands. These people have lost their homes, their families, their roads, their resources. And yet, we watch the news, disconnected in our own lives at the fragility of life. We’ve lost sight of the true meaning of life. We are green with envy. We are greedy. We want more and more. We look to our neighbors to see what they have. We don’t look at the goodness that we have in our own homes.
