I went out for dinner with a new-ish girlfriend recently and she said, “I don’t get you fully, Erica. You teach meditation and yoga and yet I never realized how much you worry about things. Is all your calmness AND high energy real?”
And the answer is 100000% yes.
I’m both.
I’m excited.
And I’m zen.
I worry about worst case scenario ALL.THE.TIME. No one is more prepared for a rainy day or a problem than me. No one replays the 17 possible scenarios in their head about what COULD happen. I think some of that is in my DNA.
But I’m also able to get stiller than still. Be calmer than calm. Have peaceful long restorative sleeps 9/10 nights.
I’m the first and last person on and off the dance floor. I love food and music and meeting new people. I’m curious. I wake up fueled for the day. I’m the eternal optimist. Life EXCITES me.
I also stress over things that most people don’t even think about.
If you feel like you have two polarized sides to you that are both authentically you, you aren’t alone.
You are allowed to be both. You CAN be both. In fact, I think being both is a superpower. It’s Yin and Yang.
It means that sometimes you appear inconsistent to others. Which isn’t ideal, one could argue.
I will continue to be the hyper and excited dancing energizer bunny. I will always be the calm, zen, to-bed-early person.
Who said that we have to be one person?
Embrace your both.
Give me a sign below if you connect with being both. Do you feel it’s your superpower? I’d love to know your thoughts.
