Dad, thank you for sending this to me. Ladies, this is truly a must SEE.

It is titled “Pork Chops.”

“In a zoo in California, a mother tiger gave birth to a rare set of triplet tiger cubs. Unfortunately, due to complications in the pregnancy, the cubs were born prematurely and due to their tiny size, they died shortly after birth. The mother tiger after recovering from the delivery, suddenly started to decline in health, although physically she was fine.

The veterinarians felt that the loss of her litter had caused the tigress to fall into a depression. The doctors decided that if the tigress could surrogate another mother’s cubs, perhaps she would improve. After checking with many other zoos across the country, the depressing news was that there were no tiger cubs of the right age to introduce to the mourning mother.

The veterinarians decided to try something that had never been tried in a zoo environment. Sometimes a mother of one species will take on the care of a different species. The only orphans’ that could be found quickly were a litter of weanling pigs. The zoo keepers and vet wrapped the piglets in tiger skin and placed the babies around the mother tiger.

Would they become cubs or pork chops????

Take a look… you won’t believe your eyes”

The punchline at the end read:

“Now, tell me one more time … Why can’t the rest of the world get along?!”

My thoughts: so many of us look at each other judgingly. We judge the mother who loses it on her kid at the grocery store. We judge the woman whom we call “selfish” because she doesn’t want to have kids. We look with judging eyes. We consider ourselves better or different than the person standing next to us. But if we took a moment, we’d realize, we are all more alike than we are different. My mom always says, “what separates you from the homeless person living on the street, is truly the flip of a coin.” I think that when we realize this, we can go about our life, our business, our existence, with compassion and empathy.

I challenge you to look a homeless person in the eye. I challenge you to be kind to the person who picks up your garbage on the street. I challenge you to pick up the phone and call someone you know who might be struggling, and tell them you SEE them– that you know it’s difficult for them.

Cuz truly, at the end of the day, just like these pictures above, everyone just wants to be loved. We all want to feel safe. It’s a basic human need.

Would love your thoughts.

And a very Happy 4th of July to my friends south of the border.
