It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay.
Let’s not forget 1 in 4 will experience mental health struggles at one point in their lives.
I post on this day every year with some strategies to improve our mental well-being.
Instead, today I would like to invite you to ask those you love a simple question. I hosted a weekly Clubhouse room every #WellnessWednesday based solely on this one question.
That question is: “How are you REALLY doing?” When you ask someone this question, get ready for a different kind of response.
When someone tells you how they REALLY are doing, you’re not expected to solve their problems. Sometimes someone wants a comforting, non-judgemental ear. A safe space to unload. Sit quietly and listen. Hold their hand. Tell them you’re there for them to HEAR them and that you know it’s hard right now. Don’t interrupt, don’t rescue. Just empathize if you are able. You can provide a safe space for someone.
And if that person happens to be you who isn’t doing so well, help is out there. Your doctor is a wonderful place to start.
Let’s keep the conversation going.
How are you REALLY doing?
