Life gets busy. And in that busyness, we can forget to do the things that actually bring us the most balance and calm. The things that make us feel better.
What are some simple self-care practices I can incorporate into my daily routine – you might be wondering?
I’ve got you today.
Incorporating self-care practices into your daily routine can really improve your well-being and overall quality of life.
So, let’s get to it! My goal is get you intentional with your daily habits and routines. Over time – you change your life.
Here are 10 simple self-care practices you can consider incorporate into your daily routine and to boost and enhance your mood:
1. Establish a consistent sleep schedule: Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night. Maintain a regular bedtime and wake-up time to regulate your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.
2. Practice mindful breathing or meditation: Take a few minutes each day to focus on your breath or engage in a meditation practice. This can help calm your mind, reduce stress, and increase mindfulness. Looking to calm your mind and body down? Download my 10-minute meditation for calm now.
3. Move your body: Engage in physical activity that you enjoy, whether it’s going for a walk, doing yoga, dancing, or any form of exercise. Regular exercise not only benefits your physical health but also boosts your mood and mental well-being.
4. Prioritize healthy eating: Nourish your body with a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Drink plenty of water and limit your consumption of processed foods and sugary drinks.
5. Take breaks and practice relaxation techniques: Throughout the day, take short breaks to relax and recharge. Pencil in white space into your calendar to zoom out, reflect, come up for air, relax, and refuel. Practice deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or engage in activities that help you unwind and reduce stress.
6. Engage in activities you enjoy: Make time for hobbies, interests, or activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. It could be reading, painting, playing an instrument, gardening, or anything that allows you to express yourself and relax.
7. Connect with friends and family and loved ones: Social connections are vital for our well-being. Spend time with family and friends, have meaningful conversations, or engage in activities together. Building and maintaining supportive relationships can boost your mood and provide a sense of belonging.
8. Set boundaries: Learn to say no when necessary and set healthy boundaries in your personal and professional life. Prioritize your needs and ensure you have time for yourself without feeling overwhelmed (or guilty).
9. Practice gratitude: Take a few moments each day to reflect on things you are grateful for. It can be as simple as writing down three things you appreciate or keeping a gratitude journal. Cultivating gratitude helps shift your focus to the positive aspects of life. If you don’t know where to begin, check out my latest book, LIST YOUR GOALS Journal.
10. Unplug from technology: Dedicate time each day to disconnect from electronic devices and engage in activities that do not involve screens. This allows you to rest your mind, reduce distractions, and be present in the moment.
Remember, self-care is unique to all of us, so it’s important to explore and find practices that resonate specifically with you. What you consider pleasurable self-care activities and what I consider pleasurable self-care activities are always different – and that is perfectly normal!
What’s important here, is to start with small steps, and then gradually incorporate more into your life until they become part of you daily routine. That’s when you will start to really experience the benefits of self-care.
