Los Angeles and Being Back On The Fence

I have been blogging a year. And what a year it has been. I started this blog with a vision, with a dream, for all women who were sitting on the fence in their lives, to have a hub, a place to connect, and learn, and laugh, and get inspired to jump off the fence. I can say the success has been beyond my wildest expectations.

Mad Money: Yay or Nay?

Did your mother ever tell you to keep some “mad money” around just in case? Mine did, and hers was in the bottom drawer, towards the back of her small jewelry box. Relatively speaking, it was not a lot of money. I believe it was anywhere between two and four hundred dollars, depending on the time of the year. But the important thing was that it was a secret from my dad. Even though she frequently dipped into this fund to buy the holiday and birthday gifts for my dad, she never told him it was there.

Wordless Wednesday

Ladies, I’m off ’till next week.

Co-Hosting an episode of a Mommy Show in L.A. and other exciting things.

I’ve never left my family this long and I’m feeling nervous and anxious.

And of course guilty.

I’ll try and check in on my spare time.

Wish me luck.

Ok Girlfriends. We’re gettin’ down, dirty and honest today. We’re taking an old topic and breathing new life into it, cuz the double standard still exists in full force in many households today. I know it’s alive and well in mine.

Warning: Today could turn into a bit of a kvetch-a-thon. I’m not sure yet.

So now, let’s look at the definition of “The Double Standard.”

Wordy Wednesday

The Headlines today read: Federal authorities say firing for posts on Facebook illegal

Please note, the above is NOT the actual Facebook remarks in question.

A Connecticut was fired after posting disparaging remarks about her boss on Facebook.

This dismissal has prompted a first-of-its-kind case by the Federal Authorities who say that her comments are protected under the freedom of speech labor laws.

The company stands by its policy against employees discussing the company on the Internet.

The “On the fence” question: Do you think it’s grounds for dismissal if an employee spreads negative remarks on their “personal” Facebook page about the company they work for and its people ?
