Happy September! I CANNOT believe Labour Day weekend has passed. To me, this time of year symbolizes the end of summer. I welcome Fall… I love a great big cozy sweater, a pair of skinnies and a good pair of leather boots. But fall means the beginning of our Montreal winters, which = INSANITY.
Taking a LITTLE girl to a shooting range? To shoot a gun that shoots 600 rounds a minute? I’m speechless because this is all COMPLETELY ABSURD. Don’t we want our little girls to learn which sport is healthy and best for them? Don’t we want them to learn about their connection to this peaceful earth?
It’s not everyday you get to meet trailblazers. Glass ceiling breakers. It’s not every day you get to meet people who were doing things FIRST. I have been fortunate enough to have met and interviewed some remarkable people over the years since starting this women’s lifestyle brand 5 years ago, next month.
A few weeks ago, I had the great privilege of vacationing in Mont Tremblant, a beautiful vacation resort about 90 minutes north of Montreal in the Laurentian Mountains. My family has been skiing at Tremblant for years, and while we are used to going during the wintertime, this was our first vacation there during the summer.
Every year, I commemorate this day by either showcasing pioneering women who are breaking glass ceilings, or I discuss the significance and importance of women’s equality.
This year, however, I decided to do things a little differently. Today, instead of honoring how far we’ve come, I decided to celebrate womanhood as a whole… celebrate our similarities, but also embrace our diversities and differences. My girlfriend Tanya sent this to me a while back, and it really struck me.

Wow, these are some wild numbers when you’re just 39 years old! Yes, today, I celebrate 14 years of marriage. We were just teens when we feel in love– 19 years old to be exact… he, 20. We smoked, we drank, we studied, we partied, we slept, we had a lot of sex, we were carefree.
Fast forward almost 20 years later… we don’t smoke, we drink occasionally (okay, him almost never), we still know how to party (when we’re able to stay up past 9pm), we are still having sex (albeit today’s numbers probably pale in comparison) and we ain’t as carefree as we used to be.
Man, real life bites, huh?!
In light of yesterday’s tragedy, I wanted to republish an older post on crushing the stigma of depression. I read online, “Maybe Robin Williams’ legacy won’t only be the humor he gave us. Maybe it will be that he brought depression to the forefront.”
It feels today as though a bright light has gone out.
It’s easy to stay in our comfort zones – to sit perched on our fences. The familiar far too often keeps us stuck right where we are and prevents us from experiencing personal growth, happiness and manifesting our dreams. But, venturing out into the unknown can seem terrifying and virtually impossible to achieve.
But what if taking the risk, taking that leap to get off the fence actually led us closer to our hopes and dreams? Led us right to our ideal life?
