Spring Clean Your Life!

Whenever March rolls around (my hubby’s birthday), I always know it’s time for me to take stock of my life. It’s the time I start sweeping out the cobwebs; literally and figuratively. Winter’s snow starts to melt away, and all the things we’ve been ignoring in our lives, start to present themselves again. Aaah, I forgot about you! Spring is a great time to deal with these things head-on. And that’s not a bad thing– spring is about rebirth, renewal, regeneration.

If you take a look at my social media feed, it’s been covered lately with spring inspiration. I have been aching for spring.

So today, in honor of the first day of spring, and also in honor of International Day of Happiness, a SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE blog post and tv segment! Today, we are spring cleaning your HOME, your relationships, your FINANCES, your MIND, and your BODY! There’s more to spring cleaning than just cleaning out your basement and closets.  You should be approaching your spring cleaning as an emotional cleanse, just as much as a physical cleanse.

What dust-balls are lurking in the corner in your life?? Gotta clean up, ladies.

The goal today is to get your lives uncluttered, and I have briefly summarized below what I discussed in my TV segment.

And then, I’d love to hear what keeps your life decluttered and stress-free.

1. Spring Clean Your HOME

Starting with your closets: if you haven’t worn it in a year, consider giving it away. If you child hasn’t worn it in 6 months, consider giving it away. And if you’re looking for a splurge, consider buying matching hangers. It’s quite pleasing to the eye.

And finally, if you’re a Marie Kondo fan, consider purging things that don’t bring you happiness! Don’t you roll your eyes at me, people. 😉

2. Spring Clean Your FINANCES

Have receipts and papers lying around (um, Hilly, I’m looking at you!) Expensify is an awesome app! You can capture your receipts and keep track of them, even on the fly. The app allows you to categorize, tag and even group expenses in a report, and in case you lose your receipt, this app allows you to import your credit card transactions.

3. Spring Clean Your RELATIONSHIPS

Here, we are looking under the carpet for hidden resentment. Ahhh… it’s that good old communication thing coming back to bite us! But, when our communication breaks down, anger and resentment builds. So it’s time to TALK again, it’s time to COMMUNICATE, and when doing so, it’s very helpful to begin “I” statements such as “I feel,” rather than “YOU are,” (using attacking language).

4. Spring Clean Your MIND

Having difficulty with sleep and stress? This is my favorite breathing sequences and I speak of it often.

5. Spring Clean Your BODY

I shared some great spring cleaning foods for your body this morning… check out the segment above. And this is also your reminder: 8 glasses of 8 oz. of water is a good approximate for you.

And finally, I would like to invite Montrealers to spring clean their minds AND bodies at my yoga class Monday evenings, 7:15-8:15pm, at DBS Fitness. We know that mixing breath with movement is why yoga is so powerful and effective. You will feel strong, balanced, calm, energized.

We’ve got the yoga mats, the water and the good vibes. It’s small and intimate, inviting, cozy, and an amazing way to finish off your Monday. We practice in dim candlelight to amazing music, so the only person to focus on is you.

I hope to see you on the mat.

Happy Spring Cleaning, lovelies.
