Back To School Shopping With @Aeroplan!

Back to school is nearly upon us. And I know that, because I just did my annual Back To School segment on Global TV this morning.

But really… who doesn’t love a great selection (and a great deal?) In case did’t know, the Aeroplan eStore features over 100 retailers such as Apple Store Canada, Indigo.ca, Dell.ca, BestBuy, Kindle, from 10 different product categories including accessories, apparel, gift cards and more. So from the comforts of your own home, you can avoid lines and do back-to-school online shopping and earn at least 1 Aeroplan Mile for every $1 that you spend and then double that if you pay with one of the Aeroplan affiliated financial cards.

On A Journey To #MakeItHappenMonday

Last week, I was thrilled to announce that I partnered with Motrin on their latest #MakeItHappenMonday Campaign, and that it is our mission to transform every woman’s “I wish” into “I will.”

Challenges have the power to lead to new growth that we never expected. I am on a mission to inspire women to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new– and I believe Monday is the perfect day to do just that. This is where you declare to yourself and the world, how YOU are going to make it happen for yourself. To declare intent and set the tone for the rest of the week. To lean into any challenge and Make it Happen every Monday.

I shared with you a little bit about my journey into meditation, and how after seeing a video by Jerry Seinfeld, I was totally inspired to up my meditation game and dive into Transcendental Meditation, or TM. Jerry really sold me.

Failing Up

I listened to something this weekend that I was merely curious about at first, and instead of tuning in for a couple of minutes, found myself lying in bed Sunday morning and listening to the entire hour.

Andy Lassner.

Maybe you follow him on Twitter, maybe you don’t (you should if you don’t, the guy is funny as hell). Andy, (Executive Producer of The Ellen Degeneres Show) and I have been following each other on Twitter for a few years now.

Here I am actually, nine months ago dancing on The Ellen Show.

But I digress…

Sunday morning, I saw that Andy had tweeted out a podcast he did on the new show Failing Up, where successful people, their stories, and the failures they experienced along the way, are showcased. The failures that have brought them to where they are today.

I don’t want to give away Andy’s story of drug addiction, hitting rock bottom, resilience, and then coming back in a big way, but Andy is such a remarkable example of a human being who got his ass of the fence.

And it for that reason that his interview lives on our blog today.

If you have an hour in bed tonight, I highly suggest you listen in.

How To Shut Your Brain Off For A Good Night’s Sleep

ow many of you lay awake at night, tossing and turning, unable to sleep? How many of you flip flop around like a fish out of water, and check that clock… 1:17Am, 3:27Am, 4:49Am, 6:30AM…..BEEP BEEP BEEP. Your alarm is ringing, time to wake up!! I am getting tired just writing about it!

The truth is for many, sleep deprivation is a major issue.

We all know how it feels when you’re lying awake in bed trying to fall asleep, and your mind is racing. Thoughts are coming from everywhere, and although your body is lying quite still, your mind is running an Ironman marathon. It’s almost as if you’re thinking 100 times faster at night than you do during the day.

Wordless Wednesday: Bedtime

I find myself referencing Orange Is The New Black quite often lately, actually!

Alright, the boys are going into 3rd and 7th grade.

What say you for bedtimes?

3rd grade: _______ pm

7th grade: _______ pm

I’m definitely on the fence.

How To Brand Your New Mom Blog

Congratulations on potentially starting a new blog! It’s a bold step to share a part of yourself and experiences as a mother with new readers. There are so many important details to figure out as you begin this unique content journey. What will your unique contribution be in the Mommy Blogosphere? Will you share photographs of your children? How will your partner respond to the content you write each week? Sadly, I can’t advise on these very important matters (only you can really answer them and maybe even then, the answers can evolve and change over time), but I can lend a helping hand on creating a fabulous brand without breaking your budget.

What Is Privilege?

I know I am on a blogging break, but I came across this today and very much wanted to share it with you. An extremely powerful visualization of privilege.

This video courtesy of Buzzfeed, illustrates the concept of privilege.

And on the 198th Day of the Year, She Rested

Girls, I am taking my annual July blogging break, only this year, it’s only going to be the last two weeks of July. I do this every year for my mental wellbeing, and for the quality of this blog. It is my gift to myself. It is not easy to continuously keep things fresh, relevant and interesting, so every July, I rest my blogging brain to come back recharged, refreshed, and ready to give you more.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be working on my upcoming women’s lifestyle invention, coaching, doing my weekly Global TV parenting segments, and relaxing.

We will also be picking the boys up from sleepaway camp. That’s it, the party’s over! I can honestly say I am going into this weekend with mixed feelings… I cannot wait to hug and squeeze them. I cannot wait to hear about the past few weeks, learn about what THEY learned, and share all the stories. But my husband and I have honestly had the month of our lives. For the first time ever since having children, we experienced what it felt like to be selfish, wake up and care ONLY for each other.

Use Your Words Wisely

I don’t remember a time when I didn’t love words. As a kid, I consumed books by the dozens, and wrote spiral notebooks-full of my poems and thoughts. What I didn’t understand then was the power of those words, to both elevate and diminish me.

By the time I was 16, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I even looked the high school career counselor straight in the eye, and said the words out loud. “Oh, you’re going to write the great American novel?” she mocked. Then, she advised me to take a typing class, so I could be a secretary. It was obvious she’d had lots of practice stabbing pitchforks into kids’ dreams.

The brutal truth was, nothing she said was worse—or more destructive—than the negative messages I was already telling myself. As I moved through high school and college, studying the beautiful words of Shakespeare, Austen, and Morrison, I became convinced that I could never be talented enough to be a writer. No one makes money writing, I chastised myself. You think you’re going to be the exception?

Avoid burnout and reclaim your time, energy & balance!
