On August 17th, 1962, Tom Brokaw and Meredith Auld wedded in Yankton, South Dakota, on the hottest day of the year. Even so, 150 of their friends and family filed into the un-air-conditioned church to witness the nuptials between my mother, the reigning Miss South Dakota, and my father, the loquacious and witty charmer.
It’s almost that time of year– the holiday season! This is by far my favorite time of year. Right around this time, I love to grab a nice hot peppermint latte at Starbucks, Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire” is playing softly in the background, and everyone is festive. Holiday time in Montreal is so beautiful. We have the snow which adds such a vivid dimension to holiday time. It’s cozy. In fact, I walked by Ogilvy’s with the boys last weekend (a department store in downtown Montreal), and they already have their Christmas window up!
Here is the deal. Two of my friends forwarded me this video last night. I confess, I had to watch it twice. It’s just so, well… awkward, gross, funny, weird. I can come up with a million different descriptions.
This is from the show on TLC called Virgin Diaries. I think the title needs no explanation. CAUTION: Don’t forget to BREATHE.
Like most people, I have failed more times than I care to remember. I’ve struck out playing baseball, I’ve failed to win the client, I’ve lost the big opportunity at work, I’ve had to close two of my restaurants, I lost my race for city council of Atlanta when I was 26, I was fired once, I was once a month away from bankruptcy, I was initially rejected by over 100 publishers, I’ve made mistakes as a parent and boss and the list goes on and on and on.
Today is about thoughts, notions and ideas that I often wrestle with. I know that I am a devoted, good mother and wife, but sometimes, just sometimes, I take the shortcut. I feel like crap afterward, but in the moment, it sometimes feels like the only thing to do.
The purpose of my confession, is to get the conversation flowing. Am I alone? I am the only one in this world who feels this way? I’d like to know.
Soooo, here are Erica Diamond’s mom confessions, on the fence issues and dilemmas.
I told you last week I was given an award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Leadership’ for my volunteer work in my community. Here is a memory of that night.
I’ve had a career working with teenagers for many years– 21 years to be exact, and have raised some as well. So, I’m in the know. And today, I am ready to share their secrets, so that raising your teens will be an easier and more joyful experience.
Please promise not to tell them that I’m giving up their secrets! But understanding them is the key to a great relationship.
It’s Cyber Monday girlies, which means online sales galore! But there really isn’t anything I’ve wanted or needed. I’m not jumping up and down for Louboutins which are reduced from $700 to $595.
But, there is this one thing I’ve had my eye on. I keep seeing this Keurig display carousel on TV commercials and I’ve wanted it. My readers know I live for my Keurig coffee machine, but those Green Mountain K-cup boxes look so unattractive on the counter. I wanted something pretty, and lord knows, I was going to find it! So, I cheated on Cyber Monday, and instead if buying online, (I needed that instant gratification), I went out to buy it! I just got home from Walmart.
Men don’t like to talk about themselves much. For this reason, many of their idiosyncrasies are largely left a mystery. Today, I am pulling back the curtain, revealing the delicate balance of what separates a man from the boy. Whether you are married, in a relationship, navigating dating websites or the bar scene, these four tips will help bring new understanding to what you already thought you knew about men.
