How Do You Talk To People?

How Do You Talk To People?

The Practice: Try A Softer Tone.

Why?

When our kids were little, I’d come home from work wanting some peace after the daily roller-coaster and often walk into a living room full of stuff – toy trucks, tennis shoes, bags of chips, etc. At the time, the arrangement my wife and I had was that I’d be primarily responsible for income and she’d be primarily responsible for taking care of the kids, including getting them to pick up after themselves. When we were both home, we divided the housework and child-rearing evenly.

When Did Being An Average Student Become a Bad Thing?

I liked yesterday morning’s Global TV segment, because the topic makes you think.

When did being an average student become a bad thing?

I talked about a recent trending parenting article, and how apropos right before exams. Something to really think about. Are YOU okay if your child is an average student?

And, being an average student doesn’t guarantee your kid won’t be a star when they grow up, just as excellence in marks doesn’t mean they’ll be successful. One thing does have an impact on future success. You’ll have to watch the segment to find out.

World Kindness Day and The Most Meaningful Experience of My Life

This morning I had one of the most meaningful experiences of my entire life. I volunteered to teach yoga at a women’s shelter, and how coincidental on #WorldKindnessDay.

I worked with one woman in particular whose trust I was lucky enough to earn over the 60 minutes. These women are vulnerable, abused, neglected, most living in poverty. I helped her find her breath. Her breath was quick and shallow, and we were able to deepen it and slow it down. Tears streamed down her eyes as I gently stroked her arms and legs on the mat. I held her gently and told that her she is safe. To visualize inhaling love, kindness, peace into her body, and to exhale any tension or negative thoughts that aren’t serving her.

I hope I made her feel seen, heard, loved, appreciated, and safe. I kept it together while teaching, but the moment I walked out of the shelter, I honestly wasn’t able to hold it in. Tears started streaming down my cheeks too.

There are no words to describe the gift of connection I experienced this morning.

Tips and Techniques To Reduce Stress on National #StressAwarenessDay

Kicked up my heels this morning for National #StressAwarenessDay at Global News!

Stress is real – you might have “good” stress or “eustress” (when you feel excited, and it can actually be interpreted as beneficial), acute stress (once the exam is over, you can relax), or chronic stress. The chronic stress is the stress that weighs heavy on us over time- like a stressful job or unhappy marriage. Chronic stress can be dangerous to our health as our bodies aren’t designed to handle constant stress.

As a certified life coach and certified yoga instructor, I shared some proven tips and techniques to help with stress management, but please know if it’s something that has become unmanageable for you, it is time to seek help.

The Science on Aging, Longevity and Sex

CAUTION: IF YOU’RE SQUEAMISH/PRUDE ABOUT SEX, PLEASE PASS ON THIS POST.

Yes, I’m serious. 😉

Okay, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s discuss the research on longevity, aging and sex. Shall we?

I had the great honor and privilege of hearing Dr. Ruth Westheimer talk about sex this week in Montreal at McGill University. There’s just something about a little 91 year old woman talking about erections and orgasms in a quiet European accent that had me giggling.

Another notable highlight of the afternoon for me was Harvard Scientist Dr. David Sinclair, author of Lifespan: The Revolutionary Science Of Why We Age and Why We Don’t Have To.

Teri Hatcher: On Hatching Change, Career, Motherhood and Inspired Living

In this episode of The Erica Diamond Podcast, Teri Hatcher and I dive into Hatching Change and her journey into living a healthy, inspired and purposeful life. A former NFL cheerleader, Teri played Lois Lane in Superman, Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives for almost a decade (my personal favorite, I have never missed an episode), is a Bond Girl, has one of the most famous Seinfeld one-liners, “They’re real and they’re spectacular,” and has won a Golden Globe and SAG Award.

Teri is a mother to a 21 year old daughter, an author, and the creator of Hatching Change, an online platform that includes the show Van Therapy and 1 for 1 (1 meal for 1 person).

Teri shares with such vulnerability, honesty, humility, and intuition, it was wonderful getting up close and personal with her.
