And On The 353rd Day, She Rested

Do you hear that sound?

It’s the sound of the home stretch. The approach of the end of a year. Christmas, Hanukkah, holiday season, Nat King Cole and reindeers. BOXING DAY! It’s also the time where I close up the blogging shop for 2 1/2 weeks. Yup, I do. I rest my kepi (that’s Hebrew for head), and come back rested with fresh content in January.

@Oprah on Barbara Walters' 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014

@Oprah on Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014

I gotta admit, I’m a sucker for this show. Barbara Walters celebrated the 21st anniversary of her 10 Most Fascinating People special last night. As long as Bawbwa Wawa keeps this yearly special going, I will tune in!

The highlight for me last night was Elon Musk. Please do yourself a favor, and watch this. You won’t be sorry. This guy is my hero. Another one I loved for her brutal honestly about herself and her career, as well as her out-of-the-box thinking, was Chelsea Handler. And yes, Taylor Swift who has somehow annoyed me for the past couple of years, got my vote. I might just have converted to a “Swifty” – as her fans call themselves.

How I Learned to Play Business Like a Hockey Player: Lessons From My Dad The Hockey Scout

How I Learned to Play Business Like a Hockey Player: Lessons From My Dad The Hockey Scout

Whether we like it or not, we have our parents to thank for many things. One of my favorites traits I inherited from my mother is the love of a good mystery – whether that mystery lie in a book, or in a hunting down a great recipe or in finding the perfect theme for my son’s birthday party. And perhaps it’s because I take after my mother’s side of the family – in looks and love of all things dipped (food) and sparkly (jewelry), that I can actually see my mother staring back at me in the mirror. My sister is often paired with our father along with their dimpled chins, love of balancing checkbooks, and ability to actually turn on and operate a vacuum.

Imagine my reaction then when I had a very startling realization – I might actually have inherited a few traits from my father! Don’t ask me how I realized this or what exactly triggered the notion (side note: the art of selective memory is also a gift I acquired from my mother), but now that the thought was in my head, I knew I had to follow the lead and of course I gave it a name and called it The Case of the Reflection In The Ice.

On The Fence About Cosmetic Surgery?

Working as a plastic surgeon in New York City, I’ve seen thousands of patients for a lot of the same complaints. Women often want thinner thighs, slimmer tummies, or fuller, perkier breasts. Exercise, a good diet, lots of water, cosmetics, and other beauty products will take you far in enhancing your appearance, but sometimes your own genetics may demand otherwise.

For those who find—no matter how much they exercise or how well they eat—that certain body parts don’t respond as well as they’d like, or for those who have completed their families and want to get that pre-baby body back despite numerous efforts, there is still hope. Advances in medical science give patients many options to spruce up their appearances with the help of a talented plastic surgeon.

5 Strategies To De-Stress Your Kids

I wanted to share this week’s Global TV segment with you. In my coaching practice, I am seeing extraordinarily high levels of stress and tension in families lately as a common thread. Many of my female clients are stressed, burned out, and it’s being filtered down to their kids.

One study says 50% of kids today feel stressed out. Children’s tensions are on the rise due school pressures, peer pressure, family tensions and just plain every day living.

This week, I shared 5 strategies to de-stress your kids.

How To Stay Healthy During The Winter Months

How To Stay Healthy During The Winter Months

It’s December. December, people!! When did THAT happen?

Beside beautiful falling snow, winter often brings something entirely different — flu season! In fact, my family’s skin has already faded from golden brown (summer lovin’) to pale white to green-like. My boys have started their first runny noses, and you can feel the winter chill in the air fast approaching. We slacked off with our health regime all summer long, because we had the benefits of natural sunlight, the great outdoors, and we ate a ton of fruit. However, with a bunch of kids packed into close quarters at school, for hours on end, it’s only a matter of time before everyone is sick again.
