Snow Day, In The News and A Salary for Stay-At-Home Moms

We awoke to a snow day… each boy for their respective schools. Man, can you spell H A P P I N E S S? Yup, they were pretty darn happy. I, on the other hand, shuffled my day around and am working from home. I also just baked a banana bread for the kids who came here to hang. I surprisingly didn’t mess this one up.

Note the last cake-baking episode below. I baked a vanilla cake – OUT OF A BOX and it somehow came out like this. Who f’s up a Duncan Hines vanilla box cake? I try, lord knows I try! I am just not handy in the kitchen. I pulled it out of the oven after 36 minutes (what the recipe called for),  and the inside WAS LIQUID. Sheer soupy liquid. I followed the recipe, and still THIS UGLY THING.

Modern Love: Marriage Is As Ageless As It Is Timeless

I recently married my partner of nearly 20 years, both of us are now in our 50s. As a young girl growing up in India, I dreamed of one day marrying a man of my family’s choosing. But my Indian father and British mother had other ideas—they expected me to make my own way in life and to find my own husband, if that was what I wanted. If things did not work out, as my father would say, “Get a divorce!” While this was a unique perspective for any person in India at that time, he believed in that right, and did assist his own sister in getting one herself. He strongly believed—and instilled in me and my sister—what a man could do, so could a woman.

Off I was sent to America, to make a life of my own and to find a husband of my own, if that was in my destiny. It’s funny how we create pre-conceived notions at what age one can achieve certain milestones, like marriage. As a little girl, I thought marriage was out of the question after a certain age, as it would be unbecoming and disrespectful in the eyes of society. What a myth. As I grow older and wiser, I no longer hold on to my youthful notion of how life should be lived or experienced. It is all about enriching the soul. I know that now, in my 50s.

Baby, It’s Cold Outside!

It’s cold outside, baby (especially if you’re in Montreal like me)! But I’ve got the sweaters and blazers to keep you warm. Whether you’re in full winter clothes or toying with spring fashion (yes, I know it still feels early for that), there is one place that has you covered in this department. Day to night, causal wear, career apparel, girls night out, date night, parties. Yes, your one stop shop is LisetteL.com. I have been their proud Brand Ambassador for a few months now, as you might know.

What turned me onto this brand when I wore their pants the very first time in a fashion show, was the fit and the flatter. I had never put on a pair of pants that were as comfortable and as FLATTERING. Every pair of Lisette L Montreal pants, no matter the fit or the print, has a built in tummy control.

Yes, they’re real, and they’re spectacular!

Hello, I’m Back

Hello, I’m back. Happy 2019, beautiful ladies.

I’m normally back on the Monday after the kids return to school but I’m back today instead, as life has it, I was in New York attending my aunt’s burial.

This past Saturday morning, my young auntie (62), my second mommy, passed away. Monday morning, I flew to New York to say my goodbyes. As luck would have it, they cancelled my 6:30am flight as I was getting to the airport at 4:30am, and so I missed her 9:30am funeral. Desperate and crying to the lady at the Air Canada desk, she gave Hilly and I the last two seats on the 8:45am flight, and when we landed, we darted to the cab line, and told the cab driver to drive as fast as he can to the cemetery. It was iffy at this point if I would make her 11am burial.

With my aunt watching over from above, all of a sudden, we saw what looked like a procession line 30 minutes into our drive and I recognized my aunt’s good friend driving in her car. I told the cab driver ‘that’s the one!’ and to scooch into line. I am still pretty sure we are the only yellow cab in the history of funeral procession lines. But I made it just in time to throw earth on my auntie, and say my final goodbye before they put her into the ground. FUCK CANCER.

Season’s Greetings

As we close another year, I wish you all a wonderful holiday season.

This time of year can actually be tricky for many – you look around and people all seem or appear to be festive and in the holiday spirit. If you are not there… please be gentle with yourself. You might wish you to know, you are not alone. As we approach the end 2018, beneath the rush of holiday activities, we can feel an undercurrent of emotion– stress, anxiety, uncertainty, and even sadness.

I saw this tweet, and I found it to be share-worthy.

‘Tis the season for gift giving, and fabulous holiday fashion! There’s no better place to stock up on the greatest office, holiday and New Year’s party attire than LisetteL.com!

What I love and appreciate most about Lisette L, is the versatility in the fashion. The ease in which I can transition from daytime to nighttime is what makes Lisette Lso special. I can work during the day in their jeans and a great top, or wear my favorite black Lisette Lpants and a sweater, and then throw on a cool Lisette Lblazer and pair of heels over my day look, and head right out to date night, or girls night, or holiday party.

In a flash, I can totally transform my look without ever coming home!

The Creative Entrepreneur’s Guide to Transforming Your Dreams Into Reality

Tell us about your inspiration for Make It Happen.

I wanted to make it easier for people to design and create their own reality. There’s a lot of talk about making your dreams come true, but as glorious as this idea is, I personally didn’t feel there were enough examples of women who’ve actually done it. After many battles with my inner critic, I decided it was time for me to take a stand and take the next step in my entrepreneurial journey.
