Settling Into A New Year

I wanted to check in with you, as I settle into a new year. This year was the second time I made ZERO New Years resolutions for myself. ZERO. If you know me, you what a planner, plotter and strategizer I am. But there was something that felt liberating in making no plans, no bucket lists, no vision boards. In starting the year without a map, and just going where the wind takes you. I’m officially a woman without direction now setting sail in the direction of pure instinct! I obviously wouldn’t suggest this for everyone. If you have a hard time getting your rear in gear, then this strategy wouldn’t be the path to a successful you in 2015. But if you are a type A, hard working hustler, then I highly suggest loosening the reigns. It turns out, it’s very liberating. Kinda like going out without a bra.

6 Tips To Build Your Own Personal Awe-Inspiring Brand

our personal brand is in essence, who you are and what you want to be known for. Think Richard Branson for Virgin, Bill Gates for Microsoft, Steve Jobs for Apple, Ralph Lauren for Polo.

After being in business for a few years, I discovered (the hard way) that I needed a personal brand. When I was doing everything myself, I kinda, sorta knew what I wanted and where I wanted to go with my boutique marketing agency, but what I lacked was a clear brand for me. While I knew what I wanted and who I was, all of that was only in my own head. I couldn’t quite figure out how to convey that into my own personal passion and bring it to life.

I needed to set myself apart from the crowd. Sure, I knew I was fun and little quirky, with non-stop drive, business savvy, resourcefulness, out-of-the-box thinking, and a helpful, can-do attitude. Everyone could see that, and I certainly didn’t need to tell them, right?

How A Chance Encounter With A Stranger Changed My Entire Life

I once lived a life that wasn’t truly my own.

It all began when I decided to go to law school. I made that decision not because of any burning desire to become a lawyer, but more likely, out of fear. I desperately wanted to fit in with my friends who were following the professional fast track. Deep down, I was worried that my artistic sensibilities would drive me to a life of poverty, despair and dead-ends. This was long before I heard about the universal laws of abundance: when you truly do you what you love and follow the path that was destined for you, the doors of prosperity open wide. I figured I could fulfill my artistic side by reading, going to the movies or catching live music on weekends.

What a mistake.

And On The 353rd Day, She Rested

Do you hear that sound?

It’s the sound of the home stretch. The approach of the end of a year. Christmas, Hanukkah, holiday season, Nat King Cole and reindeers. BOXING DAY! It’s also the time where I close up the blogging shop for 2 1/2 weeks. Yup, I do. I rest my kepi (that’s Hebrew for head), and come back rested with fresh content in January.

@Oprah on Barbara Walters’ 10 Most Fascinating People of 2014

I gotta admit, I’m a sucker for this show. Barbara Walters celebrated the 21st anniversary of her 10 Most Fascinating People special last night. As long as Bawbwa Wawa keeps this yearly special going, I will tune in!

The highlight for me last night was Elon Musk. Please do yourself a favor, and watch this. You won’t be sorry. This guy is my hero. Another one I loved for her brutal honestly about herself and her career, as well as her out-of-the-box thinking, was Chelsea Handler. And yes, Taylor Swift who has somehow annoyed me for the past couple of years, got my vote. I might just have converted to a “Swifty” – as her fans call themselves.

How I Learned to Play Business Like a Hockey Player: Lessons From My Dad The Hockey Scout

By Guest Blogger Rebecca Mayville

Whether we like it or not, we have our parents to thank for many things. One of my favorites traits I inherited from my mother is the love of a good mystery – whether that mystery lie in a book, or in a hunting down a great recipe or in finding the perfect theme for my son’s birthday party. And perhaps it’s because I take after my mother’s side of the family – in looks and love of all things dipped (food) and sparkly (jewelry), that I can actually see my mother staring back at me in the mirror. My sister is often paired with our father along with their dimpled chins, love of balancing checkbooks, and ability to actually turn on and operate a vacuum.

Imagine my reaction then when I had a very startling realization – I might actually have inherited a few traits from my father! Don’t ask me how I realized this or what exactly triggered the notion (side note: the art of selective memory is also a gift I acquired from my mother), but now that the thought was in my head, I knew I had to follow the lead and of course I gave it a name and called it The Case of the Reflection In The Ice.
