Living An Authentic Life

So how do we live an authentic life? How do we live a life just and true? I figure we have a limited number of years on this earth, so we may as well live it as authentically as possible and on our own terms, right?
Why I chose this topic is because I have been very fascinated with Chaz Bono’s story (formerly Chastity Bono), the only child of Sonny Bono and Cher, who recently underwent a female-to-male sex change.

What Women Want

But truth be told, with the resurgence of feminism and a greater number of women in the workforce earning higher salaries than ever before, society is really becoming attuned to the needs of women. And we women want it all! We’re not willing to compromise. That picture we painted of a woman when we were little… we’re going for it! In fact, society is so fascinated with what women want, there’s actually a remake in the works of the original 2000 movie.

A Week of Insanity

I’m starting to think October just really ain’t my month.

So, you all know about the scare we got from our little one a couple of weeks ago. Well unfortunately, we are just coming off another night visit from the Children’s Hospital. In fact, more like a 1:30AM morning visit, but this time for my six-year-old. Big asthma attack at 11PM last night (he suffers a few times a year from viral induced asthma when he gets a bad cold). Shivering, crying, fever, pains, trouble breathing, shaking, etc…

Off The Fence

Hello Ladies! Today I’m taking a little “me” time. I have a nice day planned,…

Off The Fence

The good news… we had our FIRST double sleep-out last night. My kids slept at my parents’ house. Woo hoo!! I dropped them both off at 4PM. My mom took them downtown for dinner, and they all slept in her bed. It was great fun for them. My hubby and I went for dinner at 6PM, were home by 7:30PM, and asleep by 9:30PM! LOSERS! We slept until 8:30AM this morning. It was heaven! The last time I slept 11 straight hours I was a teenager with a hangover. It was AWESOME!

Sometimes Straying From the Path Ain’t So Bad After All!

So with all this hoopla over the unhappiness rates for women, I wonder to myself how many gals are satisfied with what life has handed them so far. How many obstacles and what appeared to be insurmountable road blocks have you pole vaulted right over to get and keep what you want? Life doesn’t always turn out the way you thought it would, but sometimes having poor aim isn’t such a bad thing.

Elizabeth Edwards, A Woman On The Fence

When Elizabeth Edwards married John Edwards in 1977, she had but one request for her husband… that he be faithful to her. This was paramount to Elizabeth from day one. Unfortunately, we all know the outcome. I can only imagine her struggle living life on the fence with whether to stay or leave once she learned of his infidelities. She has recently documented some of those feelings in a new book, “Resilience.”

The In-Laws Conversation

Ladies, I just had to address the subject of in laws for all my girlfriends in Montreal. The stories, the laughs, the tears, it’s all very… well… amusing. I can’t tell you how many of my friends love to vent about their in laws!

It sort of goes something like this… “My mother in law is planning my whole life, and I want to tell her to back off… My father in law gave my child a hamburger when I clearly told him we’re VEGETARIANS… My mother in law is suffocating me…” And the stories go on and on.

Taking A Little “ME” Time

But all back to the point of this blog. Experts do say that for a woman to stay mentally happy and healthy, everyone needs personal time– time just for themselves. I know this. If I go too long without a girls night out, a fast getaway with my hubby, or even a long walk alone, I start to LOSE IT! I mean lose it. I do.

Kim Clijsters, Clearly NOT a Woman on the Fence

So the picture at the very top of Clijsters is what truly brings tears to my eyes. Trophy in one hand, young daughter in the other. A picture which slightly resembles “a woman having it all.” What a moment. Kim Clijsters is not only the 2009 US Open Tennis Champion, she is every woman’s champion! And, in the words of my father, “one classy broad!”

It’s time to work smarter not harder, end procrastination and own your day… every day!
