I watched the beautiful Porta De Rossi on The Oprah Show yesterday. The hour flew by. What an engaging and candid interview. Portia DeRossi, wife of Ellen De Generes, and actress from Ally McBeal and Arrested Development talked openly about her secrets of the past. She was a closeted lesbian, afraid of being “Outed,” and had starved herself down to 82 pounds, and was suffering with bulimia simultaneously.

Most of the time I like being fifty-something, but this aging stuff is complex. Inside I still feel like I’m in my thirties, but then I realize that’s the age of my children. One day recently I caught a glimpse of my hands and became aware of the fact that they look like my mother’s. I’m trying to make peace with the lines around my eyes and brackets around my mouth, justifying them with the fact that I laugh a lot, but saggy skin on my hands – yikes – I’m old.

Although it’s easier said than done, there is no point in having angst about aging. Two undeniable truths are: everyone ages and aging sucks.

It’s no secret that I have followed the research of one incredible doctor over the years… Dr. Susan Love. In fact, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2009, I Blogged about Dr. Susan Love and her Army of Women . Unfortunately, breast cancer is a disease that hits very close to home for me.

What Dr. Love has done this year, is called out to all Bloggers and women everywhere to join her in her fight against breast cancer. She’s asking us to take the pledge:

I bet you never thought of resting up on the job! I bet some of you think you require little rest to function. Or even still, some of you acknowledge the importance of rest, but can’t seem the find the time to do so. I’m here to tell you…NONSENSE! Rest is the original transformative technology. Rest is like food; without it you can’t rebuild and renew your body, absolutely required for your energy, health, and productivity. And like food, you want to dine, not feed!

A found this letter on Twitter today that Terry Fox wrote in October 1979, about his Marathon of Hope, and his fight to end cancer. I found it very apropos, as this weekend is the Weekend to End Breast Cancer Walk here in Montreal. Read this…

I came upon this story while I was on vacation. Actually, I remember the exact moment… I had just finished swimming in the lake with the boys. I opened my Blackberry and there in my inbox, a friend of mine had sent me the story of Leah Siegel. It moved me to tears, and although it’s a very tough one to read, I want to share her story.
