A Panic Attack and a Birthday

We all sat down, starved. All of a sudden, completely out of the blue, my 6 year old son began to panic. He complained that it was very loud, and he began to cry uncontrollably. He then said he wanted to throw up, so I immediately ran him to the bathroom. He didn’t throw up, but was complaining he HAD to go home. Not even the burger and fries on the table (which he usually LOVES) could calm him down or get him to eat. We took him outside, and the minute he got outside, he started to relax. He was back to normal. It was near 7Pm at this point, and I knew he was hungry, so I tried to bring him back inside. The minute he came back in, he started to almost shake again, cry, and was literally eating his burger with tears streaming down his eyes, with his coat on. He just wanted to go home. So, after he ate a little, we did just that. We darted home. Besides one time a year ago at a hockey game, where he did something similar, this has NEVER happened in 6 1/2 years.

10 Tips To Spring Clean Your Body

Spring is definitely coming. Everyone was up early in our house this morning, because of the brighter early am’s. The bad thing… less sleep. The good thing… me not ranting like a fish-wife for everyone to get out of bed so as not to be late for school. Me and rushing don’t do well together. At all. Last week, I blogged about Spring Cleaning your house and your life. Today I want to talk about spring cleaning your body. I think we often take our bodies for granted. Sometimes our bodies can take the abuse, but sometimes, as in the case of Corey Haim, (who grew up here in Montreal), our bodies just cannot. So what can you do to be good to your body, so that it will be good to you.

On Aging– Hopefully Gracefully

If there’s one thing no one in this world is exempt from, no matter how rich, how poor, how thin, how nice, how evil, how generous, WHATEVER, it’s AGING. Yes, we are all aging. And we are fighting it at the exact same rate as the next woman. Some age better, some worse, but it’s a process we all must face whether we like it or not.

Off The Fence & Into The Gym

I’ve been training clients for more than 25 years now, mostly women, and I’ve heard my fair share of workout goals from the opposite sex. For the most part, they are body part related, and the eternal quest for thinner thighs, flatter stomachs, and more toned arms continues to this day. I have learned to listen to their requests, sympathize with body image discontent, and do my best to deliver results. I combine my own agenda as a trainer with 25 years of experience and constant learning, my life experience as a human being, my clients’ goals, and I deliver my very best workout advice I can.

Being Thankful

Look at the devastation in Haiti. After a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, the death toll is in the tens of thousands. These people have lost their homes, their families, their roads, their resources. And yet, we watch the news, disconnected in our own lives at the fragility of life. We’ve lost sight of the true meaning of life. We are green with envy. We are greedy. We want more and more. We look to our neighbors to see what they have. We don’t look at the goodness that we have in our own homes.

If Worrying Were An Olympic Sport, I’d Get The Gold For Sure

Ladies, do you worry? Do you toss and turn at night unable to rest your mind? Do you bite your nails? Do you experience muscle tension? Are you absent minded or have a short attention span? These are all signs of worry. Seriously, with the way 2009 went for most people, it wouldn’t be off the wall if you experienced any to all of these. Or, perhaps you worry about what other people think about you, or if you’ve put on a few pounds. Worry comes in many different forms. But the question is, what are you going to do about your worrying? Chronic worry or anxiety take a very negative toll on your mind and body.

How Happy Are You?

Just so you know, if you’re a person who is going through life without true sense of meaning, purpose and zest, the news is not good for your longevity. People who are happy, resilient and optimistic live longer and live healthier. And while some people may be born with sunny dispositions, happiness isn’t necessarily based on genes or luck. Psychologists now believe it’s a learned skill, almost like bike-riding. In fact, Harvard’s ‘how-to-be-happy’ course, with more than 850 enrollees, has become the university’s most popular class. Its first lesson? Embrace your failures and frustrations. “When you give yourself permission to be human,” says the course instructor and psychologist, “you are more likely to open yourself up to positive emotions.” (US News)

EnchantedMakeovers.org – Off The Fence and Making A Difference

When deciding what to write about today, I opted to bring a human interest story to you, my wonderful readers. You know how I feel about all things WOMAN. I love discussing all the issues that women of all ages face, and this story touched me deep in my gut. I hope after reading about an incredible woman and her story, Terry Grahl and her organization Enchanted Makeovers, you will be just as inspired as I was. Her energy and passion literally jumped out of the phone, and I had to pass her story on to all of you. Enjoy!

Getting Yourself Out Of A Funky Rut

I’ll never forget how I soaked up, How Stella Got Her Groove Back. I went to the movie with a girlfriend when it first came out, and for us, it was two hours of bliss. The premise: a gorgeous burned-out forty-something woman reignites her fire by running away to Jamaica and finding a bedmate half her age. Now obviously, this is not what I would suggest for all women in a funk! It’s maybe a little… well… unrealistic. But you have written in ladies. Many of you are running around from work, to meetings, chasing your kids, trying to find the time and energy to reconnect with your husbands, and the daily grind has taken its toll. You’re feeling in a rut. Maybe it’s the November Blues. Maybe you need to change up your routine. Maybe you just need some good sleep. Maybe it’s something a little more serious. I read something online this weekend that was catchy and rings true, “Things have gotten a little funky for me, and the longer it stays, the funkier it gets.”
