Mixed Monday

Hello and good morning! I hope you all had a nice weekend.

I called today’s post Mixed Monday, because that is exactly what we’ve got today.

We’ve got an anniversary, a new beginning (first day of school), another new beginning (new business), and a fun weekend to share.

Yesterday, April 23rd, marked the 16th anniversary of my first company. Yes, for $37.00, exactly 16 years ago, I registered my company on a hope, a prayer and 37 bucks. I found this on my hard drive last week. It was one of our earlier attempts at marketing and customer loyalty. One of my best friends Lori designed it for me. I was, after all, marketing my business on a shoestring budget.

3 Ways To Simplify Money When She Makes More

If you earn more than your husband, you’re more likely to be the primary decision-maker on money matters and take charge of things like paying bills, budgeting, saving, and planning for retirement. That’s all according to my academic survey of over 1,000 women conducted with Dr. Brad Klontz, a financial psychologist.

While that is something to be proud of, such an arrangement could be asking for trouble. After all, a sense of equity between two committed people is important, even if there’s an income disparity.

I can relate to this in my own relationship. When my husband Tim and I first got engaged and began planning our wedding, I was definitely the one who took the reins. Admittedly, I wasn’t the best at delegating but, at the same time, he felt a tad awkward offering suggestions and providing input.

How Are YOU Going To #MakeItHappenMonday?

About two weeks ago, I was thrilled to announce that I had partnered with Motrin on their latest #MakeItHappenMonday Campaign, and that was our mission to transform every woman’s “I wish” into “I will.”

“Challenges have the power to lead to new growth that we never expected. I am on a mission to inspire women to step outside of their comfort zones and try something new– and I believe Monday is the perfect day to do just that. This is where you declare to yourself and the world, how YOU are going to make it happen for yourself. To declare intent and set the tone for the rest of the week. To lean into any challenge and Make it Happen every Monday.”

I shared with you a little bit about my journey into meditation, and how after seeing a video by Jerry Seinfeld, I was totally inspired to up my meditation game and dive into Transcendental Meditation, or TM.

Alternative Cures for Anxiety: How to Cope with Anxiety without Medication

It may seem like a cliche, but I chose to become a psychiatrist as a way to help myself. I always suffered from anxiety, but never considered that help was available until I went through my psychiatry clinical clerkship as a medical student. During my psychiatry rotation, I soon found my calling- helping others who had mental suffering would also be the way I could help myself.

I went on to become a fully trained psychiatrist, and have treated thousands of patients with anxiety and other disorders. In the meantime, I honed the knowledge and techniques it takes to relieve suffering from anxiety, and this culminated in the writing of a self-help book on anxiety, Anxiety Protocol, and the creation of a self-help website for people with anxiety, AnxietyBoss.com. In the book and website, I detail all the same information and techniques that helped me relieve my own suffering from anxiety, and has helped the thousands of patients that were treated by me for anxiety.

Back To School Shopping With @Aeroplan!

Back to school is nearly upon us. And I know that, because I just did my annual Back To School segment on Global TV this morning.

But really… who doesn’t love a great selection (and a great deal?) In case did’t know, the Aeroplan eStore features over 100 retailers such as Apple Store Canada, Indigo.ca, Dell.ca, BestBuy, Kindle, from 10 different product categories including accessories, apparel, gift cards and more. So from the comforts of your own home, you can avoid lines and do back-to-school online shopping and earn at least 1 Aeroplan Mile for every $1 that you spend and then double that if you pay with one of the Aeroplan affiliated financial cards.

Failing Up

I listened to something this weekend that I was merely curious about at first, and instead of tuning in for a couple of minutes, found myself lying in bed Sunday morning and listening to the entire hour.

Andy Lassner.

Maybe you follow him on Twitter, maybe you don’t (you should if you don’t, the guy is funny as hell). Andy, (Executive Producer of The Ellen Degeneres Show) and I have been following each other on Twitter for a few years now.

Here I am actually, nine months ago dancing on The Ellen Show.

But I digress…

Sunday morning, I saw that Andy had tweeted out a podcast he did on the new show Failing Up, where successful people, their stories, and the failures they experienced along the way, are showcased. The failures that have brought them to where they are today.

I don’t want to give away Andy’s story of drug addiction, hitting rock bottom, resilience, and then coming back in a big way, but Andy is such a remarkable example of a human being who got his ass of the fence.

And it for that reason that his interview lives on our blog today.

If you have an hour in bed tonight, I highly suggest you listen in.

How To Shut Your Brain Off For A Good Night’s Sleep

ow many of you lay awake at night, tossing and turning, unable to sleep? How many of you flip flop around like a fish out of water, and check that clock… 1:17Am, 3:27Am, 4:49Am, 6:30AM…..BEEP BEEP BEEP. Your alarm is ringing, time to wake up!! I am getting tired just writing about it!

The truth is for many, sleep deprivation is a major issue.

We all know how it feels when you’re lying awake in bed trying to fall asleep, and your mind is racing. Thoughts are coming from everywhere, and although your body is lying quite still, your mind is running an Ironman marathon. It’s almost as if you’re thinking 100 times faster at night than you do during the day.

Wordless Wednesday: Bedtime

I find myself referencing Orange Is The New Black quite often lately, actually!

Alright, the boys are going into 3rd and 7th grade.

What say you for bedtimes?

3rd grade: _______ pm

7th grade: _______ pm

I’m definitely on the fence.

Avoid burnout and reclaim your time, energy & balance!
