I know many of you will disagree with me today on today’s post, but I wanted to voice my opinion on a news story that broke this week, and how it relates back to all of us.

I know I’m on a blogging break, but I saw this, loved it and had to share. Truly something to think about… and then get off the fence and act on.
This Friday marks the closing of another chapter– kindergarten graduation and 4th grade completion. What a wonderful school year it’s been. The boys have grown, thrived, overcome challenges, and are what I can call “mensches” in the true sense of the word. All that to say, I don’t know about you, but I am DONE with this school year. I am over homework, making lunches, packing backpacks and being the full-time CCO (Chief Cheerleading Officer). It takes a shitload of EVERYTHING to raise happy kids.
A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience.
As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question.
Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”
This week’s Global parenting segment was on one of my favorite topics – food! Food glorious food! Actually, not so glorious when your kids complain that they don’t like what you’re serving, and then they ask for grilled cheese. Yes, many of you have stated that you make one family meal, and if the kids don’t like what you’re serving, they go to bed hungry. I’m just not there yet, ladies. Don’t judge.
Insomnia is a very real public epidemic. If you have trouble sleeping ladies, you are not alone. An estimated 3.3 million Canadians aged 15 or older, or about one in every seven, have problems going to sleep or staying asleep, and thus are considered to have insomnia, according to a study in Health Reports. To further that, a link correlated between obesity and insomnia has been found. (Stats Canada)

It’s been a very sad weekend. One of my closest friends buried her 49 year old sister yesterday… three young children, a husband, and a shitload to live for. From what you may ask? Cancer, of course.
Well my fellow parents, the FDA announced yesterday that “the morning after pill” will now be available to teenaged girls 15 and over without a prescription.
It’s funny what you remember from your childhood. Our earliest memories of events, interactions, and people can stay with us and resonate for the rest of our lives.
It’s also funny how each one of us comes out of the womb. At the moment of conception thousands of generations that preceded us come together at a magical moment and give us all the qualities and challenges we will have as individuals. Our strengths, our weaknesses and perhaps even more importantly, our temperament.
There are those, even as infants, who go willingly to any one that wants to hold them, who have no fear of the unknown or strangers, and who willingly use every day as an excuse to explore the world.
I was not cut from that fabric.
Whenever March rolls around (my husband’s birthday), I always know it’s time for me to take stock of my life. It’s the time I start sweeping out the cobwebs; literally and figuratively. Winter’s snow melts away, and all the things you have been ignoring in your life, start to present themselves again. Aaah, I forgot about you! Spring is a great time to deal with these things head-on. And that’s not a bad thing– spring is about rebirth, renewal, regeneration.
