Forbes Women’s Summit: A 24 Hour Adventure! #RedefinePower

Sit back, relax and grab a coffee… this one’s gonna be a longy! I am coming off a high from a 24-hour whirlwind adventure to New York City. I was honored to have received a special invite to be Moira Forbes’ guest to the 2nd Annual Forbes Women’s Summit celebrating the “Everything” of Entrepreneurship (my first love and passion). If you are a new reader, you might not know that entrepreneurship is in my blood, and I have been an entrepreneur since age 24, mentoring and coaching other female founders for the past 15 years and even writing my book 99 Things Women Wish They Knew Before Starting Their Own Business on startup.

I knew this summit was going to be magic – I mean, imagine what happens when a room full of 250 entrepreneurs, trailblazers and change-makers get together? Electricity! Fireworks! 250 dynamic women discussing important issues, all in one room… I was excited.

#BanBossy? Great. But May I Also Add #BanBitchy

“When a little boy asserts himself, he’s called a “leader.” Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded “bossy.” Words like bossy send a message: don’t raise your hand or speak up. By middle school, girls are less interested in leading than boys—a trend that continues into adulthood. Together we can encourage girls to lead. Pledge to Ban Bossy.” -BanBossy.com

I am SO excited to write about this today, and even more excited to get your feedback. The ever-inspiring rockstar Sheryl Sandberg just launched her latest baby – the Ban Bossy Movement (along with Girl Scouts of America). Sheryl, I applaud you. It’s a brilliant initiative. I have been a long-time supporter of yours as you can see here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/erica-diamond/leaping-in_b_2862847.html

WATCH: Erica Diamond on #HuffPost Live

I was honored this week when The Huffington Post asked me to weigh in on a topic that is very near and dear to my heart, and something I have been coaching for years – how to live a happy, peaceful and thriving existence in life and business. Arianna Huffington, Editor-In-Chief of The Huffington Post recently founded The Third Metric: Redefining Success Beyond Money and Power (now a website, video and conference). She talks about the third metric for success, which I will further explain below in an infographic.

Dealing With The “Boss From Hell”

We’ve all heard of ’em… THE BOSS FROM HELL! Screaming and yelling in an open office environment, placing unrealistic expectations on employees, taking credit for the success and accomplishments of others, constant criticism and denigration of employees, working employees until all hours of the night, lack of appreciation. The list of goes on and on.

Perhaps you’ve had one in the past. Perhaps you’re dealing with one now. Regardless of your current situation, bosses are a part of life, and if you’re lucky enough to have a great one, GREAT FOR YOU! If you are like the majority of the population who hate their bosses, “welcome to the club,” as they say.

And On The 353rd Day, She Rested

Well my lovely ladies, it’s almost that time of year again- Christmas, holiday season, Nat King Cole and reindeers. It’s also the time where I close up the blogging shop for two weeks. Yup, I do. I rest my kepi (that’s Hebrew for head), and come back rejoiced with fresh content in January.
Just a little note to wish you all a very HAPPY and HEALTHY New Year. As always, I am known to check in over a blogging break, so please do come and visit. Or, I am always in my playground: Twitter , Facebook and Instagram, should you wish to stay in touch.

2013: Reflections of a Year

Welcome to the home stretch of 2013. Another year down- CAN YOU BELIEVE? This year was, without a doubt, another interesting year. As has become somewhat of a yearly tradition on WomenOnTheFence.com, for the new and old readers, I recap our year.

Erica Diamond Named ‘Digital Personality of the Year’ Nominee

I am still coming off a high from an incredible evening that took place this past Tuesday night in Toronto. A few months ago, I was given a lovely honor and recognition- I was named a finalist for Digital Personality of the Year, recognizing the best in Canadian digital media. Well, my husband and I left Tuesday morning for Toronto, and he stood by my side at the annual Digi Awards in Toronto.

The Sobering Reality

“I observe that many people seek happiness “out there.” They imagine it will come to them if they get a raise, a new car, a new lover, or something else they want but do not have. My own experience, repeated many times, is that the actual reward of getting and having, is usually much less than the one imagined.” ~Dr. Andrew Weil

So, You Wanna Become An Entrepreneur?

Maybe you’re struggling with work life balance and craving more flexibility in your schedule. Maybe you have an idea you want to put forth into the world. Maybe your kids are now in school full time and you are wrestling with the idea of starting your own business. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Well, I have a few more questions for you:

Do you wake up Monday morning and wish it were Friday already?
Are you tired of getting a paycheck for doing something you hate?
Are you a stay-at-home mom who is antsy to finally do something for herself while raising her kids?
Are you a professional who is looking to change career paths entirely?
Are you burning out in the corporate world?
Have you ever thought of turning your hobby into a career?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you just may be ready to get off the fence and START YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

The Success Indicator

Happy Hump Day ladies! I wanted to share an infographic on success. I thought this was quite interesting, and I would love to hear your thoughts. I think if we look closely here, we can all own traits of both success and unsuccess.

It’s time to work smarter not harder, end procrastination and own your day… every day!
