Every Little Thing Matters

I did a thing today.

Actually I drove away from the thing I wanted to do because I wasn’t sure about it.

I picked up my daughter as planned and when she got in the car, I told her about what I saw and what I wanted to do. She said, “If you don’t feel right about not doing something, you should go back.” So, I drove back with my Joy to the place where the woman stood holding a cardboard sign that read, “Please I have no job. I have two kids and we are hungry.”

Come on now.

We all know in our heart of hearts that no one wants to stand on a street with a sign begging for help. We’re sometimes just so wrapped up in our own worries being mindless to others around us that we don’t imagine how good and easy we have it. Or worse, and I’m guilty of this too, we shove a few coins in their hands so we can feel better about ourselves.

Meeting Your Edge

If you’re not afraid, it’s not your edge.

If you’re not resistant, it’s not your edge. If you can coast through it, it’s not your edge.

If you’re not feeling raw, it’s not your edge. If you’re trying to fit yourself into a mental framework, it’s not your edge. If you think you’ve got it figured out, it’s not your edge.

If you leap too soon, you’ll bounce back to your old ways before long; and if you wait too long to leap, you’ll remain bound to your old ways after the novelty of seeing different ground has worn thin. Going to your edge is not a one-time activity; it’s a way of being.

WomenOnTheFence Celebrates Its 10th Blogiversary!

Ten years ago today, I wrote my first blog post. It’s our WomenOnTheFence.com’s 10th BLOGIVERSARY!

How things have changed over the past decade. Growth, evolution, stumbles, triumphs, watching my babies grow.

Thank you for sticking with me. I am grateful beyond measure.

How my first post went, September 11, 2009:

Happy Birthday To Me

By Janice Croze

46 today. I am still here, baby. I have more pounds and wrinkles than I want. But I am still here — and I will never be as young as I am today!

My dad died when he was 56 of a brain aneurism and his dad died at 42 of a brain aneurism.

My dad was always sure he would die young – the age his dad died a marker he couldn’t ignore.

Just as my dad did, I can’t ignore the marker of my father’s early death.

56.

Only ten years older than I am.

Growing Inner Strength

What would make a difference inside you?
The Practice:
Grow Inner Strengths.
Why?

I’ve hiked a lot and have often had to depend on what was in my pack. Inner strengths are the supplies you’ve got in your pack as you make your way down the twisting and often hard road of life. They include a positive mood, common sense, integrity, inner peace, determination, and a warm heart. Researchers have identified other strengths as well, such as self-compassion, secure attachment, emotional intelligence, learned optimism, the relaxation response, self-esteem, distress tolerance, self-regulation, resilience, and executive functions. I’m using the word strength broadly to include positive feelings such as calm, contentment, and caring, as well as skills, useful perspectives and inclinations, and embodied qualities such as vitality or relaxation. Unlike fleeting mental states, inner strengths are stable traits, an enduring source of well-being, wise and effective action, and contributions to others.

Oprah in Montreal: My AHA Moments and Life Lessons From A Path Made Clear Tour

Sunday night on Father’s Day, I had a magical evening with mom and Oprah.

I had so many AHA Moments and lessons learned from Oprah’s Path Made Clear tour here in Montreal, and I’m so glad Global TV let me share those insights on TV this morning.

Confession: I am an Oprah groupie! I totally am. Whatever she’s sellin’, I’m buyin’! I’ve seen her speak five times, I’ve met her, I’ve been on five episodes of OWN TV, and she continues to impact and influence me and my career.

6 Great Summer Reads for Women!

Summer is the perfect time to take a break, lay out in the sunshine and get into a great book.

On this morning’s Global TV segment, I shared six great summer reads. In the fall, we usually cozy up by the fire with a nice cup of coffee and a deeper read. For the summer though, I like to keep it a little lighter. We don’t have to be serious ALL THE TIME. 😉 It’s okay for Calgon to take us away sometimes.

No Title

When you show up for the first time to teach a new group of six incredible moms for private yoga at their home, and this is waiting for you. So special. I’m so grateful.

I’ve spoken a lot recently about my imposter syndrome, and how I have felt sometimes like a “jack of all trades, expert at nothing” because I am so multi-passionate. But I don’t doubt my choices anymore.

I feel so evolved in all my different arms: lifestyle and career from my coaching practice and mentoring entrepreneurs since the age 26, parenting lifestyle from my Global TV job and blog, and confident on the mat in health/wellness with my students after 18 years of practicing weekly then teaching.

I’m learning that it’s okay to love, focus on, and work your different passions, so long as you stay in your lane. I’m staying in my lane, and spreading my wings in those lanes.

Nothing Exceeds Like Excess

I’ve been hesitating sharing this story. It’s not a particularly popular topic. When you tell people you don’t drink, unless you have an excuse like you’re allergic or you’re on antibiotics, the reaction isn’t always… enthusiastic.

No one wants to question their own alcohol consumption. And think about it, what was the last social activity you did that did not involve alcohol? How far back do you have to go?

I only noticed how prominent alcohol was in my life once I decided to stop partaking in the most socially acceptable, celebrated and damaging mind altering substance out there. Everywhere you look, alcohol seems to be the star of the show. You can’t go to a social event unless there’s a promise of wine. And today women more than ever are getting on board the binge drinking train. How many memes do you see equating heavy drinking with a liberated badass woman all in the name of equality? In Montreal especially, us women pride ourselves on our high tolerances and our ability to drink hard liquor ie Jamieson straight, without batting an eyelash.

It’s time to work smarter not harder, end procrastination and own your day… every day!
