The Dark Side of Fame and The Super Bowl

Guys, I really wanna discuss this. This is the dark side of social media/fame and what I find the disappointing side to social media.

I read headlines this morning like, “Adam Levine and Maroon 5 performance seen as boring and safe,” and “Fans are destroying Maroon 5 for their halftime Super Bowl performance,” and “Maroon 5 out of 10.”

I guess when you take the world’s largest stage, you subject yourself to the good, the bad and the ugly. I get that. I just always feel like the critics are given too much power. The critics can remain nameless and faceless with the power to tear away at someone else’s self esteem, without even leaving the comforts of their own room.

Snow Day, In The News and A Salary for Stay-At-Home Moms

We awoke to a snow day… each boy for their respective schools. Man, can you spell H A P P I N E S S? Yup, they were pretty darn happy. I, on the other hand, shuffled my day around and am working from home. I also just baked a banana bread for the kids who came here to hang. I surprisingly didn’t mess this one up.

Note the last cake-baking episode below. I baked a vanilla cake – OUT OF A BOX and it somehow came out like this. Who f’s up a Duncan Hines vanilla box cake? I try, lord knows I try! I am just not handy in the kitchen. I pulled it out of the oven after 36 minutes (what the recipe called for),  and the inside WAS LIQUID. Sheer soupy liquid. I followed the recipe, and still THIS UGLY THING.

Hello, I’m Back

Hello, I’m back. Happy 2019, beautiful ladies.

I’m normally back on the Monday after the kids return to school but I’m back today instead, as life has it, I was in New York attending my aunt’s burial.

This past Saturday morning, my young auntie (62), my second mommy, passed away. Monday morning, I flew to New York to say my goodbyes. As luck would have it, they cancelled my 6:30am flight as I was getting to the airport at 4:30am, and so I missed her 9:30am funeral. Desperate and crying to the lady at the Air Canada desk, she gave Hilly and I the last two seats on the 8:45am flight, and when we landed, we darted to the cab line, and told the cab driver to drive as fast as he can to the cemetery. It was iffy at this point if I would make her 11am burial.

With my aunt watching over from above, all of a sudden, we saw what looked like a procession line 30 minutes into our drive and I recognized my aunt’s good friend driving in her car. I told the cab driver ‘that’s the one!’ and to scooch into line. I am still pretty sure we are the only yellow cab in the history of funeral procession lines. But I made it just in time to throw earth on my auntie, and say my final goodbye before they put her into the ground. FUCK CANCER.

Season’s Greetings

As we close another year, I wish you all a wonderful holiday season.

This time of year can actually be tricky for many – you look around and people all seem or appear to be festive and in the holiday spirit. If you are not there… please be gentle with yourself. You might wish you to know, you are not alone. As we approach the end 2018, beneath the rush of holiday activities, we can feel an undercurrent of emotion– stress, anxiety, uncertainty, and even sadness.

I saw this tweet, and I found it to be share-worthy.

“Every year we follow the same routine, we list New Year’s resolutions that we vow to keep, we cross our fingers, and we step into the next year. Unfortunately, only 8% of New Year’s resolutions are successful.” – Deepak Chopra Center

Everything Is For Sale Now. Even Us.

Good Morning Ladies.

Checking in from bed. I am day 7 out of 10 of antibiotics for pneumonia. I have no idea how I got pneumonia, but I can tell you, I am listening to my body. I literally don’t get out of bed unless I absolutely have to. The surrendering part has been healing. I don’t recommend getting sick, but I do recommend taking the lesson from it.

Since I’ve been in bed for about 9 days, I have come across some really interesting articles, videos and other. Since this is my blog, and I make the rules around here, I figured why not share my favorite content! So, this is my Tuesday roundup of what has caught my eye recently. I’m not on the fence about these… this is the good stuff.

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid

It’s Thanksgiving and Feel Good Friday, so here goes:

My whole life, I have given my all. My motto was, “Why give 100% when you can give 110%?” But I realized in the process of giving 110, I often complicated things. Things sometimes get… convoluted. I’m so worried about doing a bad job, that I add and I add, often unnecessarily.

When I look back at the things that have worked best for me- they’ve been simple. Like, STUPID SIMPLE. And I don’t know why it took me so long to realize this.

So, KISS has become my life’s motto for EVERYTHING lately. Should we add this this and this? No! Keep it simple. That is why Steve Jobs was so successful- he wanted the iPhone to be dummy proof- make a smartphone anyone can figure out.

6 Great Fall Reads for Women!

It’s fall, but more like winter in Montreal these days. Therefore, I couldn’t think of a better time to snuggle up under a cozy blanket, make a warm cup of tea, sit by a fire, and dive into a great BOOK.

Yesterday on Global TV, I shared my 5 picks (plus a bonus) for fall reading… a little something for everyone. Whatever you fancy, I’ve got your covered: a little mystery, romance, fiction, memoirs, self-help.

If you’re ON THE FENCE about what to read, I hope this gives you some ideas.
