CAREER

On Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace

Some bosses are tough, aggressive, direct, and curt. That might be considered acceptable behavior, even if it doesn’t suit you. But harassment and abuse are not acceptable. It can be hard to tell the difference, particularly when you’ve been heating up degree by degree. That’s what I found from my research on Millennials at work.

Over the course of two years, I interviewed over 200 high performing, high potential women and men to explore how young leaders develop. Through story analysis, we found twelve important challenges that almost everyone faces during their first ten years of work. Sadly, working with an office villain is among them.

Off the Fence and Saying Goodbye to Women on the Fence

Sometimes, you just know when it’s time for a change. When it’s time to take a new path, shake up your look, or look at life from a new perspective.

Or, in my case, reinvent your brand for a new decade. (Keep reading for the big reveal!)

For me, that moment came in the Winter of 2019 at the Blissdom conference for women’s lifestyle content creators. I used to attend these conferences regularly, back when they were conferences primarily for mom bloggers and the brands that wanted to work with them. It was the perfect event for me to attend as the creator of the Women on the Fence brand. But over the last few years, I had skipped the annual event.

How to Self-Publish Your Book

I have a question for you: What are you doing with your manuscript?

You finally finished writing your book.  Congratulations!  Possibly, you spent years writing and rewriting it.  I’m sure it represents a ton of work and an unbelievable amount of time, so you have accomplished something to really be proud of.

Now you have to address the publication issue. One possibility is self-publishing. Writing a book and publishing a book require very different skills, so you’ll have to do some internet research.  Once you start, you’ll be shocked at how much information is available on the web. What you probably won’t realize at first is that the web searches can lead to unintended problems.

There are two areas of concern here. First, some of the self-publishing information is inaccurate or flat out misleading.  Second, the web is filled with scam artists looking to prey on first-time self-publishing authors.

20 Years As An Entrepreneur With Some Fun #FlashbackFridays

Twenty years ago today, August 23, 1999, I became an entrepreneur. I registered my company for $37.00, called everyone I knew, knocked on strangers’ doors, and never looked back.

In honor of twenty years today, and it being #FlashbackFriday, here are some funny videos (when I had some INTERESTING HAIR, to say the least.)

Also a full circle moment that Global News / Global Montreal gave me my first media break.

So it’s almost 2020. Maybe you’ve decided that you’re going to get off the fence and contribute to your world and your household income in a new kind of way. Maybe you need to contribute for financial reasons, maybe you have different reasons. But one thing is for certain… Mompreneurship can be big business.

Media Women Montreal: Time For Some Thank You’s!

I still can’t believe the evening we all shared a few weeks ago.

You know when you see something in your head and then what you see is exactly what you had mapped out in your mind?

Yeah. That happened.

It was magical and our hearts are STILL full. We are beaming with pride and gratitude. Thank you for showing up and bringing your smiles, your openness to learn, your curiosity, and your amazing energy. To these 100 attendees- the energy in the room was palpable.

Thank you to our incredible panelists for sharing so openly and freely and being so accessible. We learned a TON!!!

When you show up for the first time to teach a new group of six incredible moms for private yoga at their home, and this is waiting for you. So special. I’m so grateful.

I’ve spoken a lot recently about my imposter syndrome, and how I have felt sometimes like a “jack of all trades, expert at nothing” because I am so multi-passionate. But I don’t doubt my choices anymore.

I feel so evolved in all my different arms: lifestyle and career from my coaching practice and mentoring entrepreneurs since the age 26, parenting lifestyle from my Global TV job and blog, and confident on the mat in health/wellness with my students after 18 years of practicing weekly then teaching.

I’m learning that it’s okay to love, focus on, and work your different passions, so long as you stay in your lane. I’m staying in my lane, and spreading my wings in those lanes.

Snow Day, In The News and A Salary for Stay-At-Home Moms

We awoke to a snow day… each boy for their respective schools. Man, can you spell H A P P I N E S S? Yup, they were pretty darn happy. I, on the other hand, shuffled my day around and am working from home. I also just baked a banana bread for the kids who came here to hang. I surprisingly didn’t mess this one up.

Note the last cake-baking episode below. I baked a vanilla cake – OUT OF A BOX and it somehow came out like this. Who f’s up a Duncan Hines vanilla box cake? I try, lord knows I try! I am just not handy in the kitchen. I pulled it out of the oven after 36 minutes (what the recipe called for),  and the inside WAS LIQUID. Sheer soupy liquid. I followed the recipe, and still THIS UGLY THING.
